PCI Security Standards Council Promotes Mark Meissner to Lead Education & Engagement Operations

Longtime Public Relations Veteran Promoted to Senior Vice President, Education & Engagement Officer

WAKEFIELD, Mass., 27 April 2022 — The PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) announced the promotion of Mark Meissner to Senior Vice President, Education & Engagement Officer. In his new role, Mark will be responsible for leading the Council’s global stakeholder engagement efforts.

“We are excited for Mark to take on this important role,” said Lance Johnson, Executive Director of PCI SSC. “The PCI SSC thrives on stakeholder engagement, participation, and feedback from our global community of payment industry experts. With the rapid pace of change in our industry, this role is more important than ever before. Mark’s background in strategic communications and public relations is a great fit for this position.”

Mark’s work with the PCI SSC has included leading the global communications team for the past five years. During that time, the PCI SSC communications efforts have dramatically expanded globally and has produced several award-winning communications projects. On the new role, Mark notes, “I am excited to tackle this new challenge with such a terrific team of payment security experts. The PCI SSC standards and services really are the gold standard in our industry, and I look forward to working with our community during these interesting times. The PCI SSC truly is a special place, and I am enthusiastic to fulfill this role.” Mark is a certified PCI Professional (PCIP).

Mark officially started his new role on 15 April 2022 and will report directly to the Executive Director.  Mark will also serve on the PCI SSC Executive Leadership Team.     

Before working in the payment security industry, Mark was a public relations professional specializing in high-stakes communications including crisis and litigation communications. During his time at R&R Partners, Mark led a series of major communications projects surrounding the property launch of MGM National Harbor in Maryland. Mark is a former U.S. Senate staffer and in 2002 ran for U.S. Congress in Indiana’s second congressional district. Mark and his wife live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. He enjoys international travel, watching college football and basketball, and is an Adjunct Professor at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM).
